PTA Mobile Tax Calculator for New and Used Mobiles in Pakistan
If you buy a mobile phone from outside Pakistan, there is one big question people ask:
“How much PTA tax will I have to pay?”
This question is very common because many people buy iPhones, Samsung phones, Google Pixel phones, and other mobiles from abroad. These phones may work for some time, but to keep using SIM services in Pakistan, the phone usually needs to be registered. That is why people search for things like PTA tax calculator, PTA mobile registration, PTA check, and PTA IMEI check.
The good news is that the tax is not random. It is usually based on two main things:
- The customs value of the phone in US dollars
- Whether you are applying on CNIC or Passport
Our calculator uses the same idea. It follows the official tax slabs and official customs valuation documents used for mobile phones.
What is PTA mobile tax?
In very easy words, PTA mobile tax is the amount you may have to pay to register a phone in Pakistan so that it can work properly with local SIM cards.
But one important thing to understand is this:
PTA does the registration, but the tax and duty are linked with FBR customs values and tax slabs.
That means the phone’s value is very important in deciding the final payable amount.
Why do people need a PTA tax calculator?
Many people do not know their exact tax before buying a phone. For example:
- Someone wants to know the iPhone 11 Pro Max PTA tax
- Someone wants to check iPhone 14 Plus PTA tax
- Someone wants to compare non-PTA price and PTA approved price
- Someone wants to know if Passport gives lower tax than CNIC
A good calculator helps users get a close estimate before they spend money.
That is why our PTA tax calculator asks the user to fill all details first, like mobile model, condition, customs value, and CNIC or Passport selection.
How is PTA tax calculated?
The tax is connected to the C&F / customs value of the mobile phone in USD. Then the value is matched with the official slab.
The official slab sheet shows different fixed tax amounts for different value ranges. For lower-value phones, the tax is a fixed amount only. For higher-value phones, the tax includes a fixed amount plus 17% sales tax ad valorem.
Official slabs for Passport
If the phone is registered on Passport within 60 days of arrival in Pakistan, the slab sheet shows:
- Up to USD 30 → Rs 430
- Above USD 30 to USD 100 → Rs 3,200
- Above USD 100 to USD 200 → Rs 9,580
- Above USD 200 to USD 350 → Rs 12,200 + 17% ad valorem
- Above USD 350 to USD 500 → Rs 17,800 + 17% ad valorem
- Above USD 500 → Rs 27,600 + 17% ad valorem
Official slabs for CNIC
If the phone is registered on CNIC, the slab sheet shows:
- Up to USD 30 → Rs 550
- Above USD 30 to USD 100 → Rs 4,323
- Above USD 100 to USD 200 → Rs 11,561
- Above USD 200 to USD 350 → Rs 14,661 + 17% ad valorem
- Above USD 350 to USD 500 → Rs 23,420 + 17% ad valorem
- Above USD 500 → Rs 37,007 + 17% ad valorem
So, in easy words:
- Cheaper phones usually have fixed tax
- More expensive phones have fixed tax + extra 17% part
Why does the calculator ask for New or Old / Used mobile?
This is very important.
A new phone and an old / used phone may not have the same customs value. That is why our calculator asks the user to choose the condition first.
New mobile values
For new iPhones, the official valuation ruling gives model-wise customs values. For example, the ruling lists prices for models such as iPhone 16, iPhone 15, iPhone 14, iPhone 13, iPhone 12, iPhone 11, along with other Apple devices. It clearly states that these customs values are used for duty and tax assessment.
Old / used mobile values
For used phones, another official valuation ruling gives separate values. It includes many used models from Apple, Samsung, Google Pixel, and OnePlus. For example, it lists used values for models like used iPhone 15 Pro Max, used iPhone 14 Pro, used iPhone 11, used Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra, and used Google Pixel models.
This is the reason our calculator changes the customs value when the user switches between:
- New
- Old / Used
Why does the calculator sometimes lock the customs value box?
If the selected model exists in the official valuation data, the calculator can automatically show the customs value.
That is helpful because the user does not have to guess the amount.
But if the selected phone is not found in the loaded official list, then the calculator allows manual entry. This is useful because not every model is listed in the same uploaded documents. The used-phone ruling also says that if a brand or model is not listed in the table, assessment may be made under other customs sections.
That is why we also added an Other Mobile / Manual Custom Value option.
CNIC or Passport: what is the difference?
This is another part that confuses many people.
A lot of users think Passport always gives lower tax. That is not always true.
The official slab sheet says Passport rates are linked with application within 60 days of arrival in Pakistan.
So the simple rule is:
- If the user selects Passport
- And the registration is being checked within 60 days of arrival
- Then the Passport slab can be used
But if more than 60 days have passed, then the calculator should treat it like the CNIC slab.
That is why our calculator asks for the date of arrival in Pakistan when Passport is selected.
Why is the USD to PKR rate also used?
For phones in higher slabs, the tax includes 17% ad valorem.
That part depends on the customs value in USD and the exchange rate used for conversion.
So if the phone is expensive, the final tax can change when the exchange rate changes.
This is why the calculator keeps the USD to PKR customs rate editable.
A small example
Let us say a phone has a customs value above USD 200.
Then the calculator will:
- Find the correct slab
- Take the fixed amount from that slab
- Add the 17% ad valorem part
- Show the total PTA tax in PKR
This makes the result easy to understand for the user.
Important note for users
This calculator is made to give a close estimate. It is very helpful, but users should still understand one thing:
The final payable tax can change if FBR valuation changes, exchange rate changes, or the user enters a wrong manual value.
Also, the official used-phone ruling notes that old and used phones should have been activated at least six months before export to Pakistan.
So the calculator gives a smart estimate, but the final official amount may still vary slightly in some cases.
Final words
If you are buying a non-PTA phone, a PTA tax calculator can save you from surprise costs.
It helps you:
- check expected PTA tax
- compare new and used phone tax
- compare CNIC and Passport basis
- understand whether your phone falls in a low or high tax slab
- make a better buying decision before registration
In simple words, this tool makes PTA mobile registration easier to understand.
If you know the model and customs value, you can get a good estimate in seconds.
